Blog: A taste of what you may find on Maui

Restaurant updates

There have been a few restaurant updates here in South Maui.

Yesterday a friend and I ate at a new deli, Spoon and Key. It’s located at the Wailea Village mall (just above the Shops at Wailea, also home to Manoli’s and Akamai Coffee). This is a brand-new deli, also serving brunch/lunch and dinner. When you walk in, they have a meat counter, gelato and various deli items, with nice indoor and outdoor seating areas. My sandwich ~ the seared ahi ~ was delicious. There are many little keys strewn about the place, didn’t see any spoons.

Incidentally, there are signs about a new sushi restaurant opening directly beneath the Spoon and Key. Look for 1111 Nikkei Sushi.

The Wailea Village also has a new cocktail bar ~ the Tikehau Lounge.

The Fairmont Kealani has completed its lobby renovations and opened their new bar ~ Pilina. I haven’t been yet, but several friends have been posting fantastic sushi and drink photos.

The Grand Wailea reopened its Humu’humu restaurant and bar. We had to go check out the new aquarium bar. It is definitely something.

In Makawao we now have the Makawao Public House in the old Makawao Steak House location.

Restaurant closures

In sad news, Sansei closed its Kihei restaurant recently. Their Kapalua restaurant is however still open.

Eskimo Candy sadly closed about a year ago. They had my very favorite poke bowl. You’ll still see their racy delivery trucks around, the owners decided to scale back and focus on their wholesale business.

Restaurant new beginnings

Cool Cat Cafe is said to be opening in the old Sansei location, possibly as soon as February. Their Lahaina location was destroyed in the August fires. If you like burgers, check them out!

Havens is moving into the old Beach Bum’s spot in the Ma’alaea Harbor Shops. Until they open, you can find their take-out location at the Shell gas station in North Kihei.

How about you? What is your favorite Maui restaurant? Here are a few of my favorite restaurants. Also, don’t forget about the food truck court and so much more at South Maui Gardens!
