Blog: A taste of what you may find on Maui

Maui Open Studios is BACK!

We’re finally here – it’s February and that means it’s time! It’s time again for Maui Open Studios! If you love checking out local art, supporting local and just doing something different, this FREE event is for you! It’s three weekends of exploring Maui, meeting local artists and talking story with them about their art and life.

Maui Open Studios took a break last year due to Covid, but thankfully our numbers here on Maui are down again and this event is on!

  • South Maui February ~ 12-13, 2022
  • West, North, Central and East Maui ~ February 19-20, 2022
  • Upcountry Maui ~ February 27-28, 2022

Soooo….. how do you do this?

I like to go on the Maui Open Studio website. You can click on the various artists and see a sample of what they offer and where to find them, check out their websites. Pick the ones that interest you, or go to all of them, the choice is yours! Then map out your road trip and go on an adventure!

Palms at Wailea 503
I bought the two paintings on the right wall at MOS.

I have been attending Maui Open Studios events since 2011. We had just bought our Palms at Wailea condo and I needed some art. That year I found two original paintings at an artist’s studio just up the road from Kamaole 3 beach. Had them framed and hung them in the second bedroom and the master bath. I love them.

I personally will be seeing my friend Beth Cooper and her friend Eric DeMaria this weekend (they share a display location both in Kihei and Lahaina – weekends 1 & 2). You can find Beth’s art in each one of our condos. Have you found her paintings and lino prints? I’ll add photos once condos open up and I can go in and take a pic.

I will also be going to Philip Sabado‘s art gallery and shop in Wailea. Of course I’ve been there before – most recently to buy some cushion covers for our Palms at Wailea condo. I really want to go check out his studio on Market Street in Wailuku (weekend #2).

I am a sucker for ceramics, always searching for the perfect coffee mug. Looks like Lucia Maya (weekend #3) may be right up my alley.
